Nan Sloan, MSW, NHA, Director of Operations

Ms. Sloan received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. In addition, to over 15 years in the field of gerontology she has served as a Hospice Director, in both South Carolina and Wisconsin, a Social Work Supervisor in a Des Moines Hospital and thinks that long term care is the most exciting part of health care in today's market. Eric Peterson, M.D.

Education: University of Iowa College of Medicine, 1998. Doctor Peterson is Westhaven Community's Medical Director.

Pastor Jeff McDowell

Pastor Jeff McDowell joined the Westhaven staff as full-time Chaplain in January of 2009. Previously, he served several Des Moines area Evangelical Free churches. He has 5 units of Clinical Pastoral Education obtained through Iowa Health Systems in Des Moines and is a graduate of both Master's Divinity School in Indiana and Iowa State University. He is a credentialed minister through the Evangelical Free Church of America.

Alyssa Sheedlo, Director of Dietary

Alyssa received her BS Degree in Dietetics and her Graduate Certificate in Dietetics from Iowa State University. Alyssa completed her Dietetic Internship at both Green Hills Nursing Home in Ames, and Story County Medical Center in Nevada, IA. Alyssa began to work at Westhaven Community in 2011.

Michelle Reiff, RN, Co-Director of Nursing

Michelle shares the supervision responsibilities of facility nurses and nurse aides - 23 nurses, 60 Certified Nurse Aids and 12 Certified Medication Aids. Her nursing home career began as a dietary aid. She then became a Certified Nurse Aid,an LPN and finally an RN. Her experience includes being a charge nurse, a medicare nurse, an Infection Control nurse, a Quality Control nurse and she has had MDS experience.

Melanie Musfeldt, RN, Co-DIrector of Nursing

Melanie shares the supervision responsibilities of facility nurses and nurse aides - 23 nurses, 60 Certified Nurse Aids and 12 Certified Medication Aids. Melanie is an RN and has worked at Westhaven Community for 14 1/2 years. She has experience as a charge nurse and with medicare, Infection Control, Quality Control and has MDS experience.

Carolyn Moreland, RN, MDS Coordinator

Carolyn has worked at Westhaven Community for 23 years - first as an LPN and then as an RN. She has been a nurse manager and has extensive experience - over 20 years - working with MDS.

Connie Hadden, LMSW

Connie has worked as an advocate for people with disabilities and the elderly for 30 plus years and has her Master's Degree in Social Work. Connie was a local Ombudsman for north west Iowa for 4 years before coming to work at Westhaven Community. She has worked at Westhaven for 4 1/2 years.

Jan Colvin, LPN, Restorative Manager

Jan has worked as an LPN at Westhaven Community for over 11 years. As the Restorative Manager, Jan supervises two Restorative Aids. The Restorative Department, along with Certified Nurse Aids, work to keep residents moving as much as possible.

Cindy Bell, Activity Director/Volunteer Director

Cindy is the director of the activity department consisting of 4 dedicated team members. Her activity team focus is to meet the resident's needs for activities and leisure. Cindy is also the Director of the Volunteer Department which currently consists of over 60 volunteers.

Barb Wills, Resident and Family Services and Program Coordinator Assisted Living

Barb is a member of the Department of Resident and Family Services and has worked at Westhaven Community for 20 years. She advocates for each resident, assists in meeting residents' emotional needs, and works to improve their quality of life.

Pat Angstrom, Housekeeping/Environmantal Services Supervisor

Pat has worked at Westhaven Community for 7 years and is the Manager of the Housekeeping Department which consists of 6 dedicated housekeepers. The Housekeeping Department works to keep the facility clean and odor free and to reduce the possibility of infection. Prior to working at Westhaven Community, Pat worked at Stratford Care Center for 3 years.

Bruce Thomas, Maintenance Director

Bruce has worked as the Maintenance Director for Westhaven Community for the past 27 years. He supervises 4 people in the Laundry Department and 4 people in the Maintenance Department. His team works very hard to keep the residents comfortable.
